Is your FD working as hard as it should?
Get your wealth check-up todayDisclaimer: This calculator assumes quarterly compounding (standard for Indian bank FDs). Post Office FDs compound annually; some NBFCs compound monthly. Tax is applied on total interest at maturity. In practice, TDS on FD interest is deducted annually (10% with PAN, 20% without). Senior citizen rates (additional 0.25-0.50%) are not differentiated. Non-cumulative FDs with periodic payouts are not modelled.
Drag the slider or type the lump sum you plan to deposit. Range is Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 10 crore.
Use the rate offered by your bank on its latest FD (Fixed Deposit) rate card. The calculator supports 3% to 9.5%.
Pick anywhere from 3 months to 10 years. If you need liquidity soon, Then keep tenure short to avoid premature withdrawal penalties.
Pick "New regime" if you do not claim deductions like 80C, HRA (House Rent Allowance), or home loan interest. Pick "Old regime" if you do.
Choose the slab that matches your annual taxable income (Nil, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, 25%, or 30%). This drives the TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) and post-tax yield calculation.
Check Maturity amount, Post-tax maturity, Total interest earned, Effective yield post-tax, and Tax on interest. The donut chart breaks down Principal vs Net interest vs Tax so you can see the real return after tax drag.
A fixed deposit (FD) is a financial product where you place a lumpsum with a bank for a fixed tenure at a predetermined interest rate. At the end of the tenure, you receive your principal plus the accumulated interest. Unlike a savings account, an FD locks your money for a chosen period, anywhere from 7 days to 10 years, in return for a higher, guaranteed interest rate. The rate is fixed at booking and does not change for the life of the FD, even if market rates move.
FDs are popular for three reasons.
Axis Bank compounds interest on cumulative FDs (Reinvestment Deposit) on a quarterly basis. The standard compound interest formula is:
A = P × (1 + r/n)^(n × t)
Where A is the maturity amount, P is the principal, r is the annual interest rate as a decimal, n is the number of compounding periods per year (4 for quarterly), and t is the tenure in years.
Suppose you book a ₹1,00,000 Axis Bank FD for the 15-month special tenure at 6.60 percent annual interest with quarterly compounding.
A = 1,00,000 × (1 + 0.066/4)^(4 × 1.25) ≈ ₹1,08,500
So a ₹1,00,000 Axis Bank 15-month FD at 6.60 percent grows to approximately ₹1,08,500. Senior citizens earning 7.10 percent on the same FD would receive approximately ₹1,09,179. These are pre-tax numbers. FD interest is taxed at your income slab rate, which materially changes the post-tax return.
For non-cumulative FDs that pay interest monthly or quarterly, Axis Bank applies a discounting factor because interest paid early is paid before maturity. The effective annual yield on a monthly payout Axis Bank FD is therefore slightly lower than the headline cumulative rate.

For tenures of 5 years and above, Axis Bank pays an additional 25 basis points over the standard senior citizen premium, taking the total to 75 basis points on long-tenure deposits. The highest senior citizen FD rate at Axis Bank is currently 7.20 percent on the 5-year-and-above bucket.
Axis Bank NRE (Non-Resident External) fixed deposit rates range from 6.25 percent to 7.05 percent for tenures of 1 to 10 years. NRE FD interest is fully exempt from Indian income tax. Principal and interest are repatriable. The senior citizen premium does not apply to NRE deposits, in line with regulatory norms. Minimum NRE FD tenure is 1 year.

Headline FD rates do not tell you whether an FD is the right destination for your money. The right answer depends on your tax slab, time horizon, liquidity needs, and what else is in your portfolio.
A 6.60 percent Axis Bank 15-month FD looks attractive on paper. But if you are in the 30 percent tax slab, your post-tax return drops to about 4.6 percent. A target-maturity debt fund held over a similar period may deliver comparable pre-tax returns with better post-tax outcomes. A liquid fund gives you near-FD returns with daily liquidity. An arbitrage fund treats gains as equity for tax purposes.
NovaAI, Novelty Wealth's AI-powered advisory engine, looks at your full picture (income, existing portfolio, goals, risk profile) and tells you whether an Axis Bank FD is the right pick, or whether a debt mutual fund, liquid fund, or arbitrage fund would serve you better.
